Nature Activity From The Pasture Diversity For Drought Defence Project
75 delegates from across South Australia and Victoria recently came together to spend a day with Alejandro Carrillo in Hahndorf as part of the Pasture Diversity for Drought Defence project.
Alejandro shared his experience of regeneration in the Chihuahuan Desert, Mexico, and gave practical grazing management solutions that can be implemented in our context.
Alejandro covered succession of grassland species, allowing the process, and managing for what we want in pastures. He spoke about the ‘micro herd’ and how we can support it to thrive for healthier soils, the animal herd and how to build a multi species herd that suits your needs and provides animal impact to restore the land.
We are truly grateful to Alejandro for travelling to South Australia for his knowledge, advice, humour and his generosity of spirit to help build our understanding of grazing management that regenerates the landscape.
