Wrapping Up CoastCare Week with a Cleaner Coastline!

This week, we teamed up with Port Elliot Primary School for our annual marine debris beach cleanup, and what an inspiring effort it was!
✨ Here’s what we achieved together:
45 Year 5/6 students and staff joined forces for a big day of action.
We kicked things off with a beautiful Welcome to Country and a powerful reminder about caring for Country by Ngarrindjeri man Cedric Varcoe.
Together, we contributed nearly 100 hours cleaning up the beach between Port Elliot and Middleton covering over 2.5km of coastline.

The good news:
Cigarette butts were down to 5 (from 39!).
Only 1 straw was found (compared to 7 last year).
Bottle caps dropped to 5 (from 14).
⚠️ The challenges:
A significant increase in fishing gear waste and plastic pieces—with 120 small plastic fragments collected, up from 36 last time.
Activities like these are a vital reminder of how our daily choices impact the environment.
