Successful Bird Walk at Bullock Hill

Posted 16th May, 2017. This project is now completed.

Today John Gitsham led a group of enthusiastic bird watchers on a walk through the beautiful Bullock Hill Conservation Park.

A group of 12, including members from the Friends of Cox Scrub spotted or heard 28 different bird species on the 5km walk, including the very pretty Golden Whistler.

The findings of the bird monitoring walk have been uploaded to the South Australian Murray Darling Basin monitoring data portal to add to the information collected by SAMDB’s ever-growing team of citizen scientists.

Species recorded:

Collared Sparrowhawk, Peaceful Dove, Brush Bronzewing, Sulphur Crested Cockatoo, Galah, Musk Lorikeet, Elegant Parrot, Crimson Rosella, Red-rumped Parrot, Rainbow Lorikeet, Laughing Kookaburra, Superb Fairy-Wren, Red Wattlebird and lots more.

Luckily the weather held off for us to have a BBQ lunch and a chat about what was seen.

Friends of Cox Scrub have a new Facebook Page – https://www.facebook.com/friendsofcoxscrub/ – give them a ‘like’ to hear about what they are up to.

This project was supported by the SA Murray-Darling Basin Natural Resources Management Board through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Programme and the NRM Levy.
